What is the average cost of maintenance on the BMW E34 5-series?

I'm wondering roughly how much parts cost for a early or mid-90's BMW E34 5-series such as the 525i. How much do parts cost compared to other manufacturers? If you own an E34, do you find that maintenance is comparable to other brands?

replacement parts are more expensive, by a wide margin, than you might expect to pay for other brands.

if you are on a budget -unless you have the skills and toolsets (special) required to do some of your own servicing and general repairs/replacements, i would seriously look at a much newer bmw

or consider for the same money as the 525i, a later model lexus....which rank much higher on dependability scales than german manufactures (the germans consistently score relatively low on dependability) and are a notch lower for costof maintenance and repair.
