What type of gasoline should be used in a 2003 BMW 525i?

I believe it recommends premium, but would 89 or 87 octane be fine? I own a 1997 BMW 318i and have used 87 since I've had it and it runs perfectly! What type of gasoline should be used in a 2003 BMW 525i?BMW recommends premium fuel from a top tier retailer.

The engine computer will adjust to 87 octane or higher. The engine will not be damaged, but you will have reduced performance and reduced fuel economy.

Some 87 octane fuel is very low quality. It will eventually clog your fuel injectors. Stick to ones that have a decent amount of detergent and additives.

BMWs will run on fuel containing 10% ethanol or less. Higher amounts of ethanol like E85 will damage any BMW.What type of gasoline should be used in a 2003 BMW 525i?Although the owner's manual recommends premium octane fuel, the fact that you have been using 87 octane without any problems tells me that you can continue to use it. Sometimes I feel that the automobile manufacturers are in collusion with the oil companies to promote and sell more expensive fuels. I use 87 octane in all my vehicles and powered equipment, and like you, have experienced no problems. What type of gasoline should be used in a 2003 BMW 525i?Any type of unleaded fuel. 87 is best!
