Thank you.Where is the air intake for fan / Air con in VW POLO ?The fan blows over the evaporator core(a/c) or the heater core depending on the door under the passenger glove box. a leaking heater core could cause the smell(check for wet carpet on passenger side) or if the drain on the evaporator core is blocked it could also cause this. the drain hose that lets condensation drain out from the evaporator core usually is routed out of the firewall down low on passenger side of the engine compartment. you can usually see condensation dripping out of the hose while the a/c is on.... you can sometimes run a coat hanger or a piece of wire up the drain tube and unstop it...Where is the air intake for fan / Air con in VW POLO ?are you sure it is not air cooled and the heater core ain't leaking on floor and that is what your smellingWhere is the air intake for fan / Air con in VW POLO ?Sounds like the cabin air filter needs changing. I would assume that the price would be pretty close to the same, as the mileage is about the same - but, as others have suggested - shop around, and make sure the shipping company insures the ENTIRE trip - some companies contract out portions of the trip, so the car is transfered from one truck to another - some of those companies only insure the car until they transfer to the next truck, and then there is no coverage. One adds to what already is there. Also, one does not change the oil either. If you read your manual, the oil that goes into a VW ('06) is changed ONLY at the dealership, as VW uses a special kind of oil, not the kind that is sold at WalMart or the auto parts store. If you change the oil yourself with oil other than what is recommended by VW, you risk damaging the engine. Read your manual and you will get the answers you need.

The bearing normally is sold with an installation kit (clips, lubrication, axle nut, seal, etc.) and runs from $59-90 USD depending upon where its bought. Also, in some cases you may need a wheel hub assembly, depending upon the shape of the hub when its pressed out of the bearing. Hub assemblies cost from $30 to $100 USD, again depending upon type and where its bought.
Labour varies widely across the USA (if that's where you are) from as little as $50 USD per hour to $160 USD here in the San Francisco Bay Area. The job will always be less at a independent shop (non VW dealer) vs. an authorized VW dealership service department. This is a straight forward type of job, so almost any good service shop should be able to it. I saw an ad for a window regulator on ebay. The ad states its for a VW Cabrio, Golf or Jetta, 1995-2002. I take that to mean it is the exact same part for all of these cars. Is that true? In Canada near the permafrost line.. 5-30 because you need to be able to get it started...
in general areas.. with 60-90 temps.. plain old 30 wt. deterg. oil works just fine.
YOu will need four quarts and you will have a bit left over unless you have one of the later engines with a fitted oil cleaner.
Do not overfill your engine.. just pour in 3 quarts and then add about half of the 4th, wait, and then check the dipstick.
also important.... clean off the oil screen in the drain ...

Looking at a Toyota Rav4 and a VW Rabbitt at respective Dealers?
Does anyone own either vehicle and any thoughts on what a reasonable price would be for either? Rav is a 2007 base model, with 26k (leased to a company before) Rabbit a 2008, is next model up, so more extras ie cold package, comfort package, sunroof.

Each wire going to it will have a spade connector and there will be two different sizes so that should help.

This doesn't happen every day, but has been happening more frequently lately. When it continues to run with the key off, the warning lights all come on as well, just like they are when you first turn your key on to start the car. The dealer changed the ignition switch, but that has not cured the problem. The only way I can stop the car from running is to put it in gear without giving it any gas %26amp; kill the engine. The dealer seems puzzled %26amp; so am I. Sounds like an intermittent short, but so far no luck in finding the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated. 3/ Male sure the Brakes are safe, that the master cylinder, and brake parts are very expensive to replace.

7/ Check the shifting and look for leaks at the trans, and rubber mounts.
8/ Check all the electrical that it works, looking for modified wiring, or missing wiring.
9/ Place the bus on a Rack and look under it, looking for leaks and damage.

I think a perfect 68-79 bus is worth $6,000-7,000 in today's market. That's a lot less than the last Vanagon issued (especially if it's a Synchro Westfalia) and a lot less than a fully restored split window ($40,000!!!) but those are the breaks when you are the awkward middle child.
Every year there are fewer busses on the road and as cars reach collector age the prices tend to rise. But who is complaining! Volkwagens were an affordable, dependable "people's car" and purely based on the prices of the other generations, the 2nd generation bay window bus is still a true embodiment of that philisophy. Now is a great time to restore or recondition a baywindow and enjoy it: quality German parts are still available and affordable.
Used prices can be are higher if the buyer is on the East Coast where everything is rusted or simply unavailable. Higher again if the bus is a Westfalia with all the accessories. Ideal condition is hard to define because so much feeling is involved in a purchase but lets say this is a bus that has been well cared for, driven regularly perhaps infrequently and has had a some of the original equipment replaced that relates to wear. A history of receipts is very useful to look at so be sure to ask the seller about them.
Some busses go for $250 while some are advertized on eBay for $16K. The latter is of course ridiculous because you could restore that same $250 bus for much less than $16K unless you get ripped off or go crazy with bodywork ressurecting the dead. Any bus in absolutely original condition means that over time rubber items have perished, plastics become brittle or cracked, greases have gone hard etc. You can't expect to buy a bus like this and drive it like a similarly well cared for bus that didn't cost as much but was well maintained. Your intentions wrt this time machine should be purchasing a museum piece unless of course the model is rare. For example, a 12K mile garaged double cab with original paint that was never sold in the US.
Any smart buyer with an infinite amount of patience will price the necessary repairs against the prospective bus, drop the price accordingly, make an offer or just keep looking. Of course sellers have their minimum price in mind and may just wait for the next prospective buyer. For most of us that are eager about bus ownership, it requires a little give and take because looking for a good bus is no where near as fun as driving one. At least in your head, consider the cost of the replacement parts to give you an idea of what you are really paying for. These vehicles are 30 years old and you want to be safe on the road while driving one for your sake and for others.
If I was the prospective bus savvy buyer I would make a list and grill you on the following categories below checking each item as I consider the implications of buying your bus. Anyone buying a bus solely based on color is only human but if you stay objective it will pay off in the long run unless you really enjoy restoration work and have time, the space and the money to perform it.
These gems are all largely the same wrt features despite the original purchase price (1968 camper was $2,765, 1979 camper was $7,295). Some prefer the earlier busses with the familar but underpowred 1600cc engine, others the later models with the Type 4 engine, fuel injection and more modern camper interiors.
In general, the 1971 and 1978 models are the most desirable but I'd take a favorable bus from another year because parts can be swapped and upgraded. Chances are the engine and transmission have been rebuilt and/or isn't original. You really have to know your busses to figure out what's not original sometimes. If you have to smog test your bus then you might want to consider a model year that is exempt from testing. Likewise you may want to avoid a model that has been converted to carbs and unable to pass a visual inspection test.
All of the prices below assume that you will be doing the repair work yourself and buying NEW parts. While used parts are available, buying some news parts is unavoidable. Engine and transmission work is expensive and I've estimated the labor cost of each in the price. If you are comfortable with engine and transmission replacement then you are fortunate and have more options available to you. For other items the price range reflects the severity of the problem. I can't list every possible part that can go wrong so they are only estimates that cover common categories. For strictly labor items I've indicated this also.
Also review my engine inspection article before you make your purchase so you don't end up buying a dud.

I think a perfect 68-79 bus is worth $6,000-7,000 in today's market. That's a lot less than the last Vanagon issued (especially if it's a Synchro Westfalia) and a lot less than a fully restored split window ($40,000!!!) but those are the breaks when you are the awkward middle child.
Every year there are fewer busses on the road and as cars reach collector age the prices tend to rise. But who is complaining! Volkwagens were an affordable, dependable "people's car" and purely based on the prices of the other generations, the 2nd generation bay window bus is still a true embodiment of that philisophy. Now is a great time to restore or recondition a baywindow and enjoy it: quality German parts are still available and affordable.
Used prices can be are higher if the buyer is on the East Coast where everything is rusted or simply unavailable. Higher again if the bus is a Westfalia with all the accessories. Ideal condition is hard to define because so much feeling is involved in a purchase but lets say this is a bus that has been well cared for, driven regularly perhaps infrequently and has had a some of the original equipment replaced that relates to wear. A history of receipts is very useful to look at so be sure to ask the seller about them.
Some busses go for $250 while some are advertized on eBay for $16K. The latter is of course ridiculous because you could restore that same $250 bus for much less than $16K unless you get ripped off or go crazy with bodywork ressurecting the dead. Any bus in absolutely original condition means that over time rubber items have perished, plastics become brittle or cracked, greases have gone hard etc. You can't expect to buy a bus like this and drive it like a similarly well cared for bus that didn't cost as much but was well maintained. Your intentions wrt this time machine should be purchasing a museum piece unless of course the model is rare. For example, a 12K mile garaged double cab with original paint that was never sold in the US.
Any smart buyer with an infinite amount of patience will price the necessary repairs against the prospective bus, drop the price accordingly, make an offer or just keep looking. Of course sellers have their minimum price in mind and may just wait for the next prospective buyer. For most of us that are eager about bus ownership, it requires a little give and take because looking for a good bus is no where near as fun as driving one. At least in your head, consider the cost of the replacement parts to give you an idea of what you are really paying for. These vehicles are 30 years old and you want to be safe on the road while driving one for your sake and for others.
If I was the prospective bus savvy buyer I would make a list and grill you on the following categories below checking each item as I consider the implications of buying your bus. Anyone buying a bus solely based on color is only human but if you stay objective it will pay off in the long run unless you really enjoy restoration work and have time, the space and the money to perform it.
These gems are all largely the same wrt features despite the original purchase price (1968 camper was $2,765, 1979 camper was $7,295). Some prefer the earlier busses with the familar but underpowred 1600cc engine, others the later models with the Type 4 engine, fuel injection and more modern camper interiors.
In general, the 1971 and 1978 models are the most desirable but I'd take a favorable bus from another year because parts can be swapped and upgraded. Chances are the engine and transmission have been rebuilt and/or isn't original. You really have to know your busses to figure out what's not original sometimes. If you have to smog test your bus then you might want to consider a model year that is exempt from testing. Likewise you may want to avoid a model that has been converted to carbs and unable to pass a visual inspection test.
All of the prices below assume that you will be doing the repair work yourself and buying NEW parts. While used parts are available, buying some news parts is unavoidable. Engine and transmission work is expensive and I've estimated the labor cost of each in the price. If you are comfortable with engine and transmission replacement then you are fortunate and have more options available to you. For other items the price range reflects the severity of the problem. I can't list every possible part that can go wrong so they are only estimates that cover common categories. For strictly labor items I've indicated this also.
Also review my engine inspection article before you make your purchase so you don't end up buying a dud.

Does anyone own either vehicle and any thoughts on what a reasonable price would be for either? Rav is a 2007 base model, with 26k (leased to a company before) Rabbit a 2008, is next model up, so more extras ie cold package, comfort package, sunroof.

Each wire going to it will have a spade connector and there will be two different sizes so that should help.
Does the car have a generator or a alternator? Each has a different kind of regulator and the later styles of alternators have the regulator built in.

Am I able to disable exhaust emission light on vw polo?
Have light constantly on . Engine checked and fine. Advised software problem and too expensive to update. Have to put up with light on all times otherwise. Any advise? If you replace the bulb with a resistor of the same value or paint the bulb (typpex ought to work) then all that you will see is that the light does not come on in the prestart diagnoistics.Am I able to disable exhaust emission light on vw polo?Get it scanned. It is on for a reason. And the code will show up. If the code does NOT show up, go to another shop who knows their booootaaaack from their elbow. It will be there.
If you just disable it using the ODBII scan tool, it will come back in about 2 or 3 days. And it won't pass the emission because (1) the light is on (2) you just reset it.

P.S. If your emission is not running clean, you are also possibly burning too much fuel.

I am moving in the opposite direction in the fall - I am going from San Diego, CA, to CT - the quote that Dependable Auto Shippers gave me was $560.00. I would assume that the price would be pretty close to the same, as the mileage is about the same - but, as others have suggested - shop around, and make sure the shipping company insures the ENTIRE trip - some companies contract out portions of the trip, so the car is transfered from one truck to another - some of those companies only insure the car until they transfer to the next truck, and then there is no coverage. Just be careful to ask. Good luck!

I would assume that the price would be pretty close to the same, as the mileage is about the same - but, as others have suggested - shop around, and make sure the shipping company insures the ENTIRE trip - some companies contract out portions of the trip, so the car is transfered from one truck to another - some of those companies only insure the car until they transfer to the next truck, and then there is no coverage. One adds to what already is there. Also, one does not change the oil either. If you read your manual, the oil that goes into a VW ('06) is changed ONLY at the dealership, as VW uses a special kind of oil, not the kind that is sold at WalMart or the auto parts store. If you change the oil yourself with oil other than what is recommended by VW, you risk damaging the engine. Read your manual and you will get the answers you need.

Definitely not, you'll burn out the valve seats and valves. Some years ago when I had a 72 Type 2 (twinport engine) there was a company that fitted hardened valve seats and valves so you could run on unleaded, unfortunately I can't remember the name of the company but any of the VW enthusiasts magazines such as VWM should point you in the right direction. Or try German and Swedish. Remembered it's Vege! First the basics. Are all the wires going to the proper spark plugs? Points gap is .016 not .020. It is not uncommon to find the little screw that holds the points to be stripped from over tightening. If this has happened the points will slip and lose their gap.Valve gap is also important here. I would highly recommend the John Muir book The compleat idiots guide. Take the distributor cap off and have a look. Is it dry in there? is it dirty? Again the basics. Learn to time it statically with a test light NOT while it is running with a timing light.My 72 vw super beetle i need to know how to adjust the ignition timing any help?first to just it started get the motor to TDC for #1. then rotate the dizzy so that the rotor points to #1 (its the one closest to the back of the motor, i.e. closest to you) that should be enough to get it started. then from there you can use a timing light to get it set to the proper timing. which is 7.5 BTDC. you will also want to check the dwell if you get the engine going by rotating the dizzy. the dwell should be at about 50 degrees.My 72 vw super beetle i need to know how to adjust the ignition timing any help?

Since having the golf there has been no sound coming from the rear speakers. On the car stereo unit there seems to be only controls for right to left balance control no rear to front fader. Is there a secret menu or setting on the stereo for fader control?Why is there no sound from the rear speakers in my vw golf mk4?The Vw golf mk4 didn't come with four speakers as standard if you have the Gamma radio you will have to replace the radio with the beta and install 2 rear speakers plus install wiring from the radio harness plug to the rear doors as this was also not fitted. You could also shine a torch into the rear speaker aperture if you don't see the speakers visible then there not there as usually there is a blanking sponge pad instead. If you have the speakers fitted the radio you have fitted may be a replacement.
Vw Beta was fitted as standard on the S model Gamma was optional extra, On Se Beta was standard.
Vw Beta means (Two) If you look at the buttons nr the volume you will find there is only a balance button and not a split balance and fader button as on the Gamma.
Vw gamma (Four) This has a fader button fitted as it has the front and rear speaker amp output this is also has connections to connect to the factory sat nav and cd player unit and phone connections.
*****Please note ****** The Vw golf mk4 had The speaker grills etc already fitted to the rear door cards but the speakers are not fitted behind. First option is that your radio is for 2 speaker only in which case it would be the front ones.
Second is that the radio is a different Make to the one fitted previously so the wires are in the wrong order. From the car loom you should find Car to ISO adapter.2 X 8 pin plugs. 1 will have 8 wires this is the speaker one (The other one will have Max of 5 Wires this is the Power Supply one). If you fitted a different make of radio you will need get either a Radio Make to Car Make adapter. Or you may just need the Radio Make to ISO adapter depending what you found when you removed the old one.
My car has no rear speakers and when I fitted a Ford radio it detected that there were only the 2 front speakers so automatically did not show the Front/Rear fade as it was not required.
Another option if you have rear speakers fitted is have they stopped working, My Front ones had both blown but noise came though when I connected a small test speaker to both the Front Speaker Wires.
Another option is a fault in the wires from behind the radio to the speakers.

Cost to replace a 1997 VW Golf brake booster?
I've just been out in my car and the brakes seemed a bit dull and slow to respond, and now they have started hissing too. Some online research seems to indicate my brake booster has failed, can anyone with a little car knowledge tell me if they think this is right and tell me how much it costs to repair/replace? the vacuum lines that came in these cars disintegrate when the get older and causes vacuum leaks. vacuum leaks can cause the brake booster to fail as it uses vacuum from the engine to function.
if you do have to replace the brake booster then you will have to re-bleed the brake lines and that is very hard for the beginner to get right.

the vacuum lines that came in these cars disintegrate when the get older and causes vacuum leaks. vacuum leaks can cause the brake booster to fail as it uses vacuum from the engine to function.
if you do have to replace the brake booster then you will have to re-bleed the brake lines and that is very hard for the beginner to get right.

I feel like such a jerk for doing this, but let's say you have someone you don't really like. Let's name them Grace. And Grace asks you to go to her birthday party... to go see Eclipse and to eat at huhot. With two other people you don't like. I am nice to Grace but I don't really want to go because she is annoying. Plus, her mom is the principal. But I do want to go to eat at huhot. Yes, I am pathetic. I would spend a 24 hours hanging out with people I hate just to eat at huhot. I love Genghis Grill and I figure huhot would be almost like it. I hate the twilight series and I made plans to go swimming with my two best friends on her birthday day. 鈥?1 tbsp mirin
鈥?1 tbsp freshly grated ginger juice
鈥?1 tbsp sake
Method
1. Add all the ingredients together in a saucepan and bring quickly to the boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
Teriyaki Sauce is great with Salmon, Tuna, Beef or Chicken.
Just cook the meat briefly with oil in a pan and the add teriyaki sauce and cook over a low heat.

Teriyaki Sauce is great with Salmon, Tuna, Beef or Chicken.
Just cook the meat briefly with oil in a pan and the add teriyaki sauce and cook over a low heat.

HuHot has a serve yourself style setup, where you go through a line and pile your tray with your food. The "chefs" then fry it on a Mongolian grill in front of you. You can pick and choose any ingredients you want from their wide selection: noodles or rice, different types of plainly prepared meats (pork, chicken, beef, seafood), simply cooked vegetables, and different Asian style sauces. You could go through and get a very small serving first to be sure you like it, and go back if it is a success. There is also a menu you can order off that has egg drop soup, egg rolls, dumplings, salads, kid's menu, and cheesecakes, as well as some other appetizers and sides.What kind of food can you get at HuHot?
I don't know this restaurant but something I can tell you is if they have a budget menu or a kid's menu, it will have more basic dishes on it and this will be one way to ease into the cuisine. If you are on your own, order something with chicken and/or rice, a basic thing in almost every culture, and if it is served with sauce, ask for it on the side. You might also try a simple soup or a broth, which will probably tell you a lot about the cuisine.
