Need to know how to open a driver side door on 1999 VW passat.It is closed and both door handles wont work?

I just installed a speaker in the door and the door worked fine then my girlfriend went on an errand and now wont open at all.Both handles wont work and if you lock the door the inside handle will pop up the lock but not open the door.Ive tried to slim jim it but to no avail.Is there any way to open it other than the handles?And please no stupid answers.Thanks for any advice possibleNeed to know how to open a driver side door on 1999 VW passat.It is closed and both door handles wont work?Not sure if you'll be able to see it or not, but there should be some sort of linkage behind the handle, probably more visible on the inside, if you can reach it, figure out which way it needs to go, and push/pull.
