I have a 1999 BMW 323iC with blown speakers. I want something that will sound good (Better than stock) but not anything outrageous. What speakers should i get for my E36 BMW?Be very careful what you do here. BMWs come with different stereo systems, and puting in the wrong hardware can be very costly. Some cars in that time came with the Harmon Kardon sound systems, and these operate at a different Ohm level than standard sound systems.
I am not a stereo expert, but I am a BMW owner ('98 323is) that just had his speakers blown out by an installer at Best Buy (actually Magnolia, BestBuy's wanna-be high end shop), because the installer put a deck in that was on a different Ohm level. The installer thought he know a way around it. He didn't. The replacement cost of the Harmon Kardon speakers, parts + service is $2,300.
Just speakers.
I'm sure you can't do any damage to the rest of the system by installing speakers, but you might find that you've bought and installed a new set of speakers, only to turn on the stereo and have the speakers destroyed if the amp is outputing at a different level than the speakers were designed for. Lots of time and money quickly gone to waste.
BMW goes out of their way to make sure you can't easily throw in aftermarket parts, preferring to rape you at the dealership for stock parts. The stereos and amps are not standard to what you would pick up at most stereo shops, other than the high end joints.
I'm now shopping to replace the damage done by the installer, and a high end shop told me that the only way to really go is to dump the whole system. Change the deck, amp and speakers.
You say the speakers are blown. Have you installed a new deck or amp? I am wondering the cause of the blown speakers, and if you've already made changes to the system that might have been the reason. If so, you may need more than just speakers to remedy the problem.
Hope this helps in some way. What speakers should i get for my E36 BMW?best thing to do is go and listen to some speakers down at an audio store, then you decide on the sound you wantWhat speakers should i get for my E36 BMW?Who cares you have a BMW!!!!!!What speakers should i get for my E36 BMW?
