With the window down the door shuts better. There is a tight vacuum in the car I guess. But the locking parts on the door and body are slightly off so you have to slam the door to get it locked together. How do you adjust the doors on a 1966 VW Beetle? The doors don't seem to line up with the body precisely.?Here is how to do it:
1. open your door
2. Look on the B-pillar, there is a striker plate.
3. You will see 3 screws on this striker plate, one adjusts it vertically and on horizontally. The vertical adjustment should be the middle flat-head screw, while the horizontal screw in set back in the circular location on the bottom of the striker plate.
4. Loosen these 2 screws, not too much, but enough to where you can move it slightly.
5. Keep moving is slightly until you see both the B-pillar seam and door jam seam are flush with each other and you can shut it properly.
6. Dont forget to tighten the screws (like I did 1 time)How do you adjust the doors on a 1966 VW Beetle? So shutting the door is easy with the windows open is kinda normal.
Does your door drop when you open it? Or does it open smoothly, but the body lines don't line up? The Hinge screws are next to impossible to loosen at home. Impact drivers rarely work. I have always had to use a torch to heat them up. Maybe all you have to adjust is the latch on the door jamb for up/down, in /out on the rear edge. if the door seems to be twisted from top to bottom roll the window down and twist the door in the direction it needs to go. You can do this by bracing the lower inside or outside rear edge with your knee and pulling the top inside or outside edge with your hands, which ever way the door needs to be tweaked. DO NOT FORGET TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN. It can and will shatter if you have to really tweak it.How do you adjust the doors on a 1966 VW Beetle? The doors don't seem to line up with the body precisely.?Some thing is wrong there. But -here goes. -Get an impact driver and loosen both hinge plates. Decide what way the door must go to satisfy the door latch. Block it up and tighten the hinges slightly. Slam the door (window down) and then tighten the hinges good and tight- Next try it without the wedges and make small changes with a hammer and blunt chisel. Now the door fits, check the window adjustment. Inside the trim panel is the window regulator with slotted mounts which can be adjusted to make the window fit the door. If it dosn't fit, get a new door as that one is torqued,
