It's really kind of common sense. A BMW costs more because it is made up of more expensive, higher quality parts. They cost a lot when they break, but if you take care of it and get a warranty, you should be fine. At the BMW dealership that I go to, their techs charge 125 and hour for labor.



At the Suburu dealer I know of, they charge 8.00 bucks for a full wiper blade, wiper INSERTS on my BMW cost 8.00 bucks each!

if you want a bmw get a brand new one than you don't have to pay anything for the first 4 years. and after that its about $125 for an oil change. but you don't change you oil for a recommended 15,000 miles. but most people change it around 8,000 miles. there is an stage 1 and 2 inspection at about 20,000 to 25,000 miles for stage 1 and stage 2 is about 50-60,000 miles. the stage 1 inspection cost about 600 dollar at the dealers. and stage 2 is about 900 dollars. I'm pretty sure stage 1 is included in the full maintance in brand new bmw if its under the 4 years. I don't know mine was out of the "free" period i had to pay 600 buck for them to tell me my car is perfect. parts for bmw are harder to get than domestic car can't really goto autozone and get bmw specific parts. and unless you order online you have to goto the dealer which will charge you full msrp. But if you compare bmw to the the same class of cars the maintance fees are about the same. compare to benz, bmw is cheaper but about the same for lexus, bmw, audi and acura.How much more expensive is automotive work and parts for bmw compared to say honda or toyota?
If you go to the dealer or a name brand repair facility you will pay thru the nose...but compared to other vehicles? You might pay a bit more but the reliablity factor of a BMW will outlast other vehicles...so you are actually ahead. You need to shop around for an honest mechanic that probably works out of his home,is mobile or owns a small shop. Try him out and see how reliable his work is. If you are happy,build a good customer relationship with him and he will save you money in the future by being honest with the repair costs. Then you might see that repairs are comparable with other makes. To give you an example,my mechanic put a new radiator and replaced hoses and belts and did an oil change for $180.
