Why doesn't the handbrake work in a 2006 bmw?

I have a 2006 bmw 325i. I decided to test my handbrake in a parking lot only to find that it didn't work while moving. It's possible that it's just out of adjustment, or the car has been driven with the handbrake partly engaged, and has worn out the brake shoes. Either way, it's not hard to repair. It may still be under warranty... The handbrake on your vehicle is a rear drum brake,cable operated system, these brake shoes need to be first bedded into the drum,then an adjustment will be necessary, this can be done from inside the vehicle but i would suggest taking it to the dealer.Why doesn't the handbrake work in a 2006 bmw?MAYbe under warranty?
