I have a 2000 VW jetta and my engine is ticking... it has done this like 2 or 3 times before but when i change the oil it goes away for a little while. What could be causing this? Why is my engine ticking in my 2000 VW Jetta?VWS don't have push rod engines thus no lifters. The cams of the overhead cam press the valves. I'm thinking that a valve might be a little tight in it's valve guide. This could be caused by oil deposit buildup since the ticking goes away when you change the oil. I would get a can of the engine flush and follow the directions. You basically put it in just before an oil change, run the engine for a short while then change the oil. Use the weight of the oil the manual instructs. Also starting about a year ago the engine oil manufacturers were required to take the zinc biphosphate( I think I spelled that right) out of the oil. It's an extreme anti pressure and anti wear compound that provided superior lubricity. You can still get oil that contains moly another anti wear compound. I would add a quart of moly oil to your regular oil to bring it up to full. The Schaeffer oil brand with moly I use can be mixed with any engine oil.Why is my engine ticking in my 2000 VW Jetta?
Its the hydraulically operated cam follower by the sounds of it. A good flushing oil is the answer, followed by a quality oil that is the correct grade for the car. Buy a Japanese car ? That's rich. I have a similar Japanese heap, its had to have a new front nearside suspension leg and then an offside rear spring after it was found to have fractured when taken for the MOT, AND the car was not 3 years old !! Yeah, these Jap cars really are good .........Why is my engine ticking in my 2000 VW Jetta?I am guessing your tappets neep doing or your cam is worn, probably the latter. Try a quality engine renovator, they have a material in them that is good for 50,000 miles and will almost certainly shut the noise up.
My vintage diesel Land Rover got a lot quieter and economy improved significantly
I had a 2000 Jetta VR6 and that thing was a ticking bomb. Biggest piece of crap I ever bought. Wait until your engine light come on, you'll never be able to get it off, then the transmission will start slipping in warm weather, then who know what. I just sold it and got myself a Lexus Is250. This super Toyota better be way better than that Jetta. Why is my engine ticking in my 2000 VW Jetta? You need to take it in to the dealership mechanics. There is excess play in valve clearances and they have the "shims" to adjust the valves. Gives you better performance and the ticking will go away. Not something that is done at the corner repair shop. Why is my engine ticking in my 2000 VW Jetta?
make sure your using the proper weight oil. if not the engine is not getting the proper lubrication
sounds like its your lifters. go to a auto parts and buy rislone quiets down lifters or check if its your timing belt hopefully its not thatWhy is my engine ticking in my 2000 VW Jetta?
it`s a cam follower, alias LIFTERS!
My 2004 Jetta 1.8t had an engine ticking sound which I was told by the dealer was normal for that engine.
