Just installed a new aftermarket stereo in my Passat, but I cannot figure out how to lock it in? Right now it just slides right out. Anyone have any tips on this? Thanks :)Locking in aftermarket stereo in 99 VW Passat? If you have the sleeve that the radio slides into, you need to install that first. When it's in the dash, you need to bend the tabs on the inside outward so they lock and grab hold of the inner dash. This will lock the cage(sleeve). Then when you slide the radio into the cage, and it should lock into place.
The tabs you need to bend outward, are the little tabs cut into the cage. Some of them are probably triangle in shape, depending on the brand of the radio and it's cage. Alpine radios use a series of tabs along the top and bottom edges. Most others use the triangle shaped tabs.
Don't forget the tabs on the sidesLocking in aftermarket stereo in 99 VW Passat? What's sliding out the radio or the radio and the little sleeve that the radio goes into.
