I have a 1992 BMW 325is and the computer thingy,, that says what the outside temp is ect, keeps saying that the rear tail light is out- it isnt, I heard that I can reset the computer without taking it in to a mechanic,, any thoughts? How do I reset my BMW on board computer? You do not need to reset the "computer".
When the instrument cluster displays the icon for the rear tail light,
it is saying that there is something wrong with the tail lights even if the lights are still working. Usually this is due to burnt or melted or corroded bulb/bulb socket contacts.
Check all your tail light bulbs. I guarantee that at least one of them is bad and needs to be replaced. If you don't, the cluster's icon display will not go away. Worse, the loose/bad contact can even damage the rear tail light assembly and wirings, all because you did not replace a bulb.
Do not forget to check the 3rd brakelight. How do I reset my BMW on board computer?Usually the trunk seal is leaking when the rear taillight appears on your dash screen, the moisture in the trunk corrodes the contacts. Once you clean the corrosion check and make sure the bulb your putting in is 21 Watts,
As to the 3rd brake light sometimes the little board in there goes bad and you may need to replace it if you have cleaned out the tail lights and the error still occurs.
At my shop instead of replacing the 3rd brake light board I install a little contraption of my own to fool the system into thinking everything is fine but if a bulb does go out of new corrosion builds up the read out will still pop up.
Replace the seal before more problems happen. How do I reset my BMW on board computer?you do need a special tool to reset the computer and it cost about 60 dollars to buy it.you can find the adds for it in car magazines.
