Friend has an older Bmw with 180000 miles-anyone know how many more car might be able to run or personally have any records??Or do you think its time to junk it???How many miles can an older 6 cylinder Bmw get?Its just broken in. I've pulled the head off of a 3.5 with over 300,000 on it (odo locked up at 300,000) and I culd still see the cross hatching. That engine has another 300,000 in it!



Biggest bane to older BMW's is the cooling system. If the hoses, engine cooling fan, or radiator fail the engine can overheat. If the vehicle is not stopped immediately irreversable engine damage will occur.

I add further that I own an E28 520i 1984 model.done 196,000miles and still going perfect.

I keep proper maintainance of luboil,all other fluids,hoses,bearings,bushes,pumps.shock absorbers,mountings,brakes,brake master and booster,battery,cooling system flushed,electric fans checked,air con serviced,good tyres,universal joints and coupling on steering and propeller shaft,rubber couplings on propeller shaft..lastly timing belts/chains.



honestly speaking I have not spend more than USD2800 for all this years.I can use this car for another 10 years without much spending.



Believe it or not?Thats the fact.



Your friends car can go another 100,000 miles or more,pls ask him to change the timing belt or chain if he dont have reords of last change.
