How many miles can you put onto a BMW 745i 2002?

I'm interested in a 2002 BMW 745i the listed price is 16,995 and the miles are at 88,000. My question is how many miles can I get out of this vehicle . I have heard up to 300,000 but what is a realistic number and is this a good value and a sensible purchase. How many miles can you put onto a BMW 745i 2002?How long should a car last? I would look at the statistics and make some assumptions, esp. since you are inheriting a used car with average history or worse...

"Days past, 100,000 miles was usually the average life of a car," says John Ibbotson, a workshop supervisor who's in charge of vehicles that are tested for Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center in Connecticut, referring to vehicles from the 1950s to 1970s.

"At 100,000 miles, we were into major engine and transmission rebuilding," Ibbotson says. "Cars in the '90s, it was 140,000, 150,000 miles."

The U.S. Department of Transportation reports the average life span of a vehicle is 12 years, or about 128,500 miles. But that could be low simply because people don't maintain them, Ibbotson says. "If you bought a car today, there shouldn't be any problem with that car going 200,000 miles," he says. - msn.comHow many miles can you put onto a BMW 745i 2002?
It depends on how well it has been maintained. Check the service records before you buy. That being said, you should be able to get quite a few more miles out of it if you properly maintain it.

The purchase price of the car is just the beginning of expenses. You can look at the owners manual and see what services will be required in the near future. Most cars require some fairly expensive services be performed around 100K miles. Parts and repairs for these cars are very expensive when they are required. How many miles can you put onto a BMW 745i 2002?Don't buy it. If any of the control units stop working and need to be replaced, they need to be programed and coded. All the ECU's need to be up to the same programing level. When the year model car gets programed, the process and kill another control unit and cost more money. There are over 70 control units (mini computers) on that car. The car costs alot to maintain. Also, in the engine, there is one fatal flaw in the cooling system. If coolant starts coming out of a small hole on the right of the front timing chain cover a pipe and o-ring in the engine need to be replaced. It takes 10-15 hours labor to fix. We are talking thousands $$$$ of dollars to repair. This coolant leak occures on cars with 70,000 to 100,000 miles.

I would steer clear of a 745i, any year, but 2002 and 2003 are the worst. How many miles can you put onto a BMW 745i 2002?
Since I currently own a 2003 745i w/ 86,000 miles, I can tell you that the car will last at least 200,000 provided good maintenance is made. My car feels better today than it did when I first got it. That said, not everyone takes care of their 7-series. Many are leased and those people do not put money into a car that isn't "their own". Does the car you are looking at have service records? If not, run. If yes, see what has been done. Look for iDrive/car computer updates as they were needed back in 2006 to correct idling issues. Look for the coolant expansion tank to be replaced. The tank and associated hoses are plastic (to save weight) and usually break at least once. I believe the complete list of issues to look for are at bimmerboard.com under the E65 section. How many miles can you put onto a BMW 745i 2002?300,000sounds about right, but you have to remember that you are going to need more and more repairs as you put on more miles. bits will wear and tear, and you will spend more and more money. it can technically run past 300k but you will need fixing and replacement
