Please let me know if it is worth getting an extended warranty on a BMW 525i?

I went to the dealer this weekend and it would cost $3000 for 4 more years and 50,000 miles. Mine expires in Dec. 2008. Please let me know this is really worth. I know it would cost more than that if something major happens. But is there any underwriting or would they take into consideration the pre-exisiting condition of the vehicle? Any BMW owners who have taken this extended warranty or if anyone who has faced issues with these companies, please advice! Please let me know if it is worth getting an extended warranty on a BMW 525i?You didnt specify the age and condition of the car...

The only way that i would get the warrany is if i suspect that the car is going to ruin sometime soon or if i plan to sell it in another year or two... This way you can overprice your car because it has a warranty. Please let me know if it is worth getting an extended warranty on a BMW 525i?
The only way extended are worth the paper they are printed is if you expect to encounter a repair in the next four years %26gt;$3k. This would be a major repair: transmission failure, head blown etc. You also need to factor the depreciated value of your vehicle over the next four years. It may well be that you've paid a 3k warranty on a vehicle worth about $4-5K. (Not worth it). Otherwise take the $3k, put in a CD in the bank, and keep it for vehicle repairs.

Finally, an extended warranty essentially prevents you from taking the vehicle to anyone other than BMW for service. (You can do stuff yourself-legally, but many dealerships will give you static for it.) And would ANY dealership sell you something they didn't expect to make money on?

Generally speaking, they are a bad idea. Please let me know if it is worth getting an extended warranty on a BMW 525i?How many miles are you planning to drive your 525i BMW? If you can afford to change cars every 50,000 miles or 4 years, you would best not pay the high cost of extended warranties. Most dealers in the US are advertising an overall driveline warranty that is good for 50,000 miles or 4 years, whichever comes first. Some items, like batteries and tires, have separate longer running warranties. You might like to try a POV (previously owned vehicle) which has a guaranteed low mileage and carries a new car warranty up to two years of age. On a European vehicle I would get one.. want to know why it cost $3k to get one? Because they breakdown more often and cost more to repair. Mercedes are even worse..

Also, just because it's sold through a dealer does NOT mean you have to take it to a dealer. Check with the provider, they may allow you to take the vehicle to any licensed (as a legit business) repair facility, be it a dealer or a small shop.

See what else the coverage comes with.. roadside assistance, rental car, road hazard on tires.. etc.

You might also check with your personal auto insurance provider and your local Credit Union to see if they offer similar coverage at a better price. Please let me know if it is worth getting an extended warranty on a BMW 525i?i had a 525i... lovely car... till the head warped.. luckily we own a garage... you however dont..

and 50 000 miles or 4yrs, its average mileage.. and how much will it cost to buy another, of similar age, if and when this one blows up? (or the engine management comouter has a brainfart and wont let you start it... (we see lots of beemers on recovery trucks, and its usually the imobiliser at fault.)

they wont admit it, but htey get interference from satellite transimission dishes.. here we have a black hole.. beemers drive in (and audi and jag) and they dont start until they towed off... and its about 300yds from a massive BT transmission array on the railway station roof...

either way 700 dollars a year is 2 dollars a day... and id regard a quid a day insurance a good deal, our local BMW dealership charges 200 dollars an hour.. (£100) Please let me know if it is worth getting an extended warranty on a BMW 525i?
