I have a 1988 bmw 535is and it wont start due to the automatic transmission light and no start-keeps recurring?

ive had it serviced bmw and ive done the same thing on my own what could be the problem with it? i believe it may be in the outer fuse box itself but idk. what happens is the car is fine one day the next day it is not. tired of paying for relays and fuses, what can i do?I have a 1988 bmw 535is and it wont start due to the automatic transmission light and no start-keeps recurring?on this model the light for the auto transmission with the gear on , never comes on at all until you actually have a problem and your not getting power from your fuse box or relay or your auto transmission switch under your (economy-sport-manual switch) . On this make and model you do have 2 fuse boxes one is under the hood and the other smaller one is under your steering wheel panel for the use of power window and power and heated seats. The fuse box in this year and make car is known for problems catching fire or not working properly i would eventually have it replaced. ok, it seems you have worked on the car a lot which means you have taken the battery out, you said the bmw dealer fixed it and it worked after a replaced relay. but when you did it it did not fix itself all the time , so this means that you need to reset it by turning the ignition over 3 times without starting, try that and replace your relay with only a bmw relay (the aftermarkets are cheaper but have bad symptoms also.) ok it should work now. if the problem happens again replace your fuse box with a more modern oem one, thanks. :)I have a 1988 bmw 535is and it wont start due to the automatic transmission light and no start-keeps recurring? If you can remember when the car ran the little trans light with the little gear in it always goes on till the car starts. The only time the light is suppose to be out is when you set a security code for the ignition lockout. As I read your question the trans program light is working normally.

There is only one fuse box and that's the one under the hood as you said.

When people say "no start" that is not even close to enough information for a tech trying to diagnose a problem via the internet or telephone.

What I suspect is that your turning the key to the crank position and nothing is happening and then you have it worked on and then the car will actually crank and start for awhile and then maybe a day to months later it does it again.

IF this is what your experiencing replace the ignition switch (the electrical side). These switches can fail and then with a "remote start" by a tech the car will crank and start again using the key for awhile and then stop working and the process repeats itself.
